“We have a 1925 stone twin with a third floor balcony terrace. The door leading to the balcony was an old weathered closet door. Alex made us a beautiful Philippine mahogany door just to our liking, including a seamless panel of tempered class…The door works perfectly three years later and the finish still looks pristine...What was once the coldest and darkest room of our house is now a cozy sun lit haven.” ~ Jobina, Philadelphia, PA
First off, let me start by saying that Alex, Claire and the Legacy Restoration crew were amazing. My wife and recently bought a home in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia. We loved the original Victorian doors, but knew they needed some serious work. The doors had dings and gouges in several places, the hardware was falling apart, and it was definitely not weather-proof.
After researching several contractors and restoration specialists in the Philadelphia area, we decided to go with Legacy Restoration, and we are glad that we did! Restoring a door is no small project, nor is it cheap, but compared with building a new custom door (expensive) or a pre-hung door with new frame (not attractive), restoring them was the best option.
Legacy Restoration had the best "package". They came to our house to remove the doors, installed a temporary security wall, and restored the doors at their shop over three weeks. They refinished all sides of the doors, installed new hardware, new weather stripping, new door sill/threshold and even finished/painted it. Most contractors would want to do this individually (hire a carpenter to refinish door and install sill, locksmith to install hardware, painter to paint and stain door, etc.), but Legacy did it all from start to finish. We had total peace of mind. And Claire was the best at going through the options and explaining the process.
With that being said, we would absolutely use Legacy Restoration again, and will refer them to friends and family. Thanks Legacy! ~ Anthony, Philadelphia, PA
Legacy Woodworking is a first class operation. I came to them with high expectations for a custom made bar to go in my shop/warehouse. They well exceeded those expectations and I couldn't be happier and more proud of this outstanding piece of art they created. People come in and can't believe how gorgeous and perfect it looks. It is a statement piece yet sleek and thoughtfully made so that it seems perfectly fitting where it is. The type of work they do, this old world craftsmanship, is so incredibly hard to come by. They are the guys you want creating and working on the investments you make for your home, office, and space. They create family heirlooms. They are so versatile, too. Since the hand crafted bar, I've had them work on other projects large and small (from shelving to go behind the bar to pieces to an old table), with only the best outcomes, great customer service, and most of all beautifully handcrafted results. If you want true craftsmanship, no matter what you need- from restoring 1800's doors to salvaging barn wood for a table, these are the guys. Philadelphia is lucky to have them!
